About

Niní Bagundo is an Indigenous (Otomí Hñähñú/Maya) writer, director, dramaturg and recent graduate of Northwestern University. Originally from Mexico City, Niní is committed to uplifting Native American, Indigenous and Latine stories and their intersections with queerness, neurodivergence, mental health, womanhood and gender diversity. Their work seeks to re-indigenize artistic spaces and practices while making space for authentic, nuanced and truthful forms of representation.

Niní works extensively as a director of new work. They have developed plays and musicals for Telling Humans Playwriting Studio, Chicago Dramatists, and Pop!Up Productions. They’re currently developing Go! The Musical, a BIPOC-centred pop musical about a girls' soccer team by Reva Sangal and Avery Powers, alongside Pop! Up Productions and Token Theatre. A workshop performance will arrive in the Summer of 2025 at the Goodman Theatre.

Their recent playwriting work includes an ongoing cycle of hiking plays featuring ROCK-BOTTOM and UPHILL, two heartfelt, character-driven dramas, and YOU, ME AND EVERYONE ELSE, a bite-sized romantic comedy about how the people we love shape us.

Outside of theatre and film, Niní enjoys learning about history, perfecting vegan cuisine and spending time with their kittens Paloma and Margarita.
